Portage Park Bungalow
From the first showing, I knew this 1920s Chicago bungalow was ours. It took three more walkthroughs with a fair amount of convincing before my husband finally agreed to see what I saw: the quiet promise beneath years of wear.
Decades of deferred maintenance meant the restoration would be gradual. We approached it patiently, updating and repairing in layers rather than all at once, allowing the house to reveal itself along the way. Each decision became part preservation, part adaptation for how we live now.
Caring for this home has been less of a project and more an ongoing relationship. One I feel grateful to steward, honoring its history while giving it a future.
The result: a work in progress!
